ASOIF

On May 30, 1983 - during the period included in the program of the 1984 Summer Olympics, 21 international federations regulating sports decided to create the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations-ASOIF.

The ASOIF was established to 'coordinate and defend the common interests of its members' as stated in the first article of its constitution 'as well as to' ensure close cooperation between its members and members of the Olympic Movement and other organizations'. These needs are defined to defend the unity of the Olympic movement while maintaining 'the prestige, independence and autonomy of the member International Federations'.

Mission of ASOIF: the mission of ASOIF is to unite, promote and support the Summer Olympic International Federations (BF), it is also important to maintain their autonomy while coordinating their common interests and goals.

Role of the ASOIF: the role of the ASOIF is to serve and represent the Summer Olympic International Federations in the most competent, expressive and professional manner on issues of common interest in the Summer Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement and on other issues that international federations deem necessary.

Mission of international federations: International Federations have the right to manage and monitor the daily work of various sports disciplines around the world, including the practical organization of events during the Olympic Games and the supervision of the development of athletes involved in these sports at all levels.  International federations govern sports worldwide and ensure its promotion and development.

All members meet in the General Assembly once a year. The General Assembly usually precedes a joint meeting between the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee and the International Federations, in which numerous topics are discussed in the common interests of the Olympic movement.

The ASOIF is governed by the Council, an executive body composed of eight individual members, all of whom are leaders of the Summer Olympic International Federations and the Executive Director of the ASOIF.
